collision. you can see the damage to the side of the boat. we're live at marin general hospital where two people were taken. john? reporter: those two were airlift herement one of them severely injured. and an unidentified surgeon and nuss, who just happened to be on the ferry, jumped into the smaller boat to help provide emergency medical treatment to the victim. >> the damage to the 22-foot speedboat shows the force of the impact. a windshield shattered. the front side of the boat caved in. as the coast guard towed the damaged craft to tiburon, the >> the first guy was completely not moving. they were doing the cpr for a long time. reporter: the rescue effort involved emts from the coast guard and at the tiburon fire

department and a surgeon and nurse who were on the ferry and jumped on the victim's boat to help. the collision occurred as the ms san francisco was on its way from sausolito to san francisco. the accident happened in the raccoon strait. none of the 500 pool on the ferry was hurt. >> you could feel it. and we heard itself. at first we were look, hit the ground, what happened, and then came closer, we saw the people lying on there. >> the bay was calm with ferries normally sailing at 10-15 knots. a spokesperson for the golden gate transportation district says the smaller bolt was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit the ferry, the coast guard and medical choppers provided a real life drama on an idyllic saturday afternoon. >> they were doing cpr on one

guy, and they continued to do cpr. the other guy they brought up, he was -- had in blood on his face. >> the coast guard has been interviewing victims and the ferry captain and five deck hands have been drug-dispesd placed on administrative leave, which is routine. the ms san francisco was put out of service for the day but regular ferry service should resume tomorrow. abc7 news. >> ama: an early morning apartment fire on treasure island killed a ten-year-old girl and has displaced don dozens of residents. it happened on mariner drive. that's where sergio quintana is live with the details. reporter: this is a fire that has hit the island pretty hard. a few minutes ago i watched as neighbors came by to drop off

some stuffed animals. >> in the cell phone video you seek the flames and neighbors unable to get into the building to help anyone out. trapped in this inferno, a ten-year-old girl. >> we heard she was crying, the windows burst in, and everybody had to kind of scatter and run. >> desiree lives next door to the victim and her family for seven years. she heard someone pounding on her door and that's when the tried to get everyone out. she is devastated at the loss of her ten-year-old neighbor. >> the child was yelling, and screaming for her mom. couldn't go in. >> she and her four children are now homeless. their apartment was among four damaged or destroyed. 30 other residents are also displaced. [sirens] >> some residents complained about how long it took the fire department to get on scene. especially since the fire

station is less than half a mile away. the fire department is looking at all aspects of the incident. >> i have not spoken to the residents. i know the investigators did. if there was a cause of the fire or any delay in getting notified. >> what's clear is the fire was especially intense and firefighters say it is unusual to arrive on scene and find flames coming out of every opening in the building two crewmen were injured as a floor gaveway. it. >> people went up to try to go through the door, and as we approached, it exploded. >> at this hour the fire department has still not determined exactly what started this fire. but they did determine pretty early on that it was not a gas fire. reporting live on treasure island, sergio quintana, abc7 news.

a thousand people. hours later on meteor shot across the sky here in the bay area. hearings the latest. reporter: these are new images of the giant meteor over russia followed by an explosion equivalent to 30 heir row seem ma -- hiroshima bombs. >> something we only saw in the movies, this resident said. never thought we would see it ourselves. one day later, more than 24,000 people mobilized to help repair buildings, replace blownout windows and clean up broken glass. officials say over 1200 peep were injured, more than 4,000 buildings damaged, and more than a million square feet of glass shattered the size of 20 football fields. nasa says it's the biggs meteor to hit the earth in more than 100 years. one piece is believed to created a huge hole in this frozen lake.

financial district in san francisco. we're looking at clear sky there with san francisco, 49. 52, oakland. novato, 45. santa cruz, 50. livermore, 47. and even the bay bridge, seeing some clear conditions overhead. santa rosa, light fog. 42. napa, 43. concord, 47. 47 right now in clear sky in los gatos. so here's a look at the forecast. highlights for at least the next few days. passing clouds overnight. fog will develop overnight. in fact get ready for more sunshine for your sunday but it's going to be cooler, and that trend will be with us next week and wet weather will return by tuesday and wednesday. here's a look at the pacific sleight. these high clouds moved through earlier. they have exited the state and you can get a sense of the fog banking up near the coast. high pressure responsible for these unseasonably warm

temperatures, hold on for one more day as we head into monday and tuesday. boy, that's when temperatures are really going to start to drop as the jet extreme -- stream plows in and it will be cold air, and bring the bay area the return of the winter rains. in fact here's a look at the timing. 5:00 tuesday morning, just in time for the morning commute. you can see the rain moving across the bay area. here comes the frontal system, around 10:00, 11:00, heavy rain expected, and then it will filter through the entire bay area. so get ready for wet conditions. lows tonight, north bay, east bay, protected valley areas. look for fog to developer in the coast and overnight temperatures in the 40s. highs for sunday, not too bad. we'll come down a few degrees. still very pleasant with 65 for los gatos, 64, san jose.

ten-year-old girl died in a fire on treasure island. five members of her family managed to escape. a muni accident in daly city may cost a 72-year-old woman her life. the woman was hit by the back of the bus while she was in the crosswalk this afternoon. family members said she is not expected to survive. >> the family of olympic runner oscar'ser' business storeas is grieving. he is charged with the killing of his girlfriend, steenkamp. the olympian's family talked to the media. >> as you can imagine, oscar is in numb and grief. >> attorneys are expected to argue he fired at steenkamp
